Got any guess on the likelihood they resign Raisel?
I'd throw out 40% thinking he might take $10M/yr with a team option and $2M team buyout for an additional year because he likes the team, situation and success he's had in ATL. AA should absolutely do that if available, and I guess he's probably thinking along those lines, as it lowers his annual cost and frees up bullpen money to spend in other ways. How right or wrong do you think that is?
I think I agree that it needs to be at a discount over full freight of $16M, but I'm not sure he takes a discount that large when the free agent class is that shallow. Heck, if he rebounds to last year's form going forward, he might get a RAISE simply because of scarcity.
I don't think I'd want to go past $12M or max $14M on this, given that you have Daysbel learning on the job and maybe even Hurston Waldrep if his recent mechanical changes don't pan out and they finally make the bullpen move with him.
Yeah AA won't give him a raise because of age, but you know Uncle Steve would. If he really likes the team and conditions, and there is a lot to like about ATL, then maybe they come to an agreement... I wouldn't give it a coin flip chance but 40% seems fair.
Right now seems like we did the right thing in not bringing Charlie or Travis back from last season.
