Welcome to the new online home of Braves Today.

Some explanation is probably in order. When I started this two years ago, first partnered with Sports Illustrated for the 2023 season and then Athlon Sports for the 2024 season, my goal was to give fans of the Atlanta Braves a source for free news, notes, and analysis of the team without all the fluff and clickbait.

About that.

Turns out, excluding clickbait and going with quality over quantity is kinda incompatible with the main revenue model of both Sports Illustrated and Athlon Sports. They depend on volume over quality - aggregating other outlet’s stories on “potential trade targets” or talking about what Ronald Acuña Jr. wore on the 2023 All-Star Game red carpet (as iconic as it was) is what they asked for more of, not 1000 words on why Aaron Bummer needs to be used more in the seventh inning.

So we’re going to do this instead.

You can expect detailed breakdowns of things that I find interesting (like 1000 words on why Aaron Bummer needs to be used more in the seventh inning) as well as continued game coverage from us. You may not get a “Lineup and How to Watch” story in the mid-afternoon, but you’ll still get takeaways after every game. That isn’t going away.

Hopefully, owning this ourselves instead of aligning with a clicks-based revenue model from an established brand works out. It may not! But I’m going to keep doing both this as well as the new, revamped Braves Today podcast (now partnered with Bleav) because this is my passion. I grew up with Skip and Pete, wore #3 through my childhood in emulation of Dale Murphy, and tried (and failed) to throw from the mound like Tom Glavine.

I consider myself fortunate to have grown up in the South in the 90s and been able to watch the Atlanta Braves on TBS, as it created a lifelong love of Braves baseball and has given me the ability to bond with friends, family, and readers over the years. And I consider myself the luckiest man in the world whenever I dial into a press conference, walk onto that field for batting practice, or take a seat in that press box to cover the team as credentialed media.

Thank you for coming on this journey with me. This is Braves Today.
